Studebaker, regulator, sterling silver on offer Aug. 13
Cordier Summer Antique and Fine Art Aug. 13 showcases an eclectic mix of items. A Hok-hok mask in the style of the Kwakiuti tribe, a 1.02-carat emerald and diamond ring, an 18th-century tall case clock, and a 1963 Studebaker Avanti will cross the block during this sale.
HARRISBURG, Pa. — Several high-end automobiles, lead by a 1963 Studebaker, will highlight Cordier’s Summer Antique and Fine Art Auction, Aug. 13. The sale will also feature antique furniture, jewelry, and fine art.
Scarce Studebaker Set to Roll Before Bidders
A 1963 Studebaker Avanti is among the top lots of the sale. It carries an estimate of $6,000 to $8,000 to the auction. The Avanti was a stylish but short-lived design from Studebaker. Debuting in 1962 a year later production ceased. Following the closure of the Studebaker plant, the Avanti name and design were sold to various entrepreneurs. Replicas and new designs under the Avanti name came about until 2006. Original Avantis are hard to find, as only a few thousand were produced.
A 1987 Maserati BiTurbo SI Coupe ($3,000 to $4,000) and a 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT ($2,000 to $4,000) will also turn heads at the sale.
Gear heads won’t be the only bidders drawn to this auction. Fine art offerings include a painting attributed to British artist Gainsborough Dupont ($1,000 to $2,000). Works by Ira Deen, Leroy Neiman, and others also appear in the catalog. A KPM plaque depicting Queen Louise signed “Wagner” bears an estimate of $3,000 to $5,000.
Regulators Lead Timekeeping Offerings
A tall case clock by Samuel Hill (1765-1809) is another potential standout. Hill was a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania clock maker active from 1786 to 1807. The clock is eyeing $8,000 to $10,000.
Fine collectibles include a large Seth Thomas Office Regulator #2 ($1,000 to $1,500), as well as a Regina 15 inch disc player ($2,000 to $3,000).
In furniture, a library table from the Margaret Bennet Mansion on Franklin Street in Baltimore ($800 to $1,000) is up for bid. A striking floating arm sofa set by Ed Wormley for Dunbar comes forward with an estimate of $8,000 to $10,000.
Tribal Mask Poised to Capture Attention
A hok-hok mask by master carver Dwayne Simeon heads into the auction with an estimate of $2,000
to $4,000. In bright red and yellow against black, the mask’s bold geometric design is typical of the Kwakiutl tribe of the northwest coast.
A 1.02 ct emerald and diamond ring and a 2.58 ctw diamond brooch are among jewelry available, each carrying an estimate of $2,000 to $3,000 each. Antique Sterling silver will also cross the block, including a Stieff Rose repousse goblet. It may make $5,000 to $6,000.
