Southwest artifacts and objects up for bid Dec. 17
Artifacts including jewelry, basketry, carved figures, and clothing and accessories from the Southwest region of the U.S. will come before bidders Dec. 17 during Turner Auctions + Appraisal’s online sale.
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Turner Auctions + Appraisals will present over 280 lots of fine Southwest items from three major collectors – including jewelry, pottery, and collectibles. The sale is Sunday, December 17, 2017.
Showcasing Southwest Tribal Wares
Offerings also include jewelry, including bracelets, squash blossom and heishi necklaces. Furthermore, bidders will see men’s and ladies’ rings, concho and other belts cross the auction block. Pottery jars and figures are from the Navajo, Hopi, Santa Clara, Acoma, and Santa Domingo tribes, among other Southwest groups.
Clothing in the sale includes moccasins, gauntlets, arm bands, leggings, pouches and adornments. Artwork includes paintings and sculpture. While most items are Native American, there are some African and Pre-Columbian pieces as well. In addition, the sale also offers various reproduction pieces, such as a headdress, hunting lance, hide shield, and a quiver.

• Salado stone effigies, excavated in 1979 in Mule Creek, New Mexico. Three figures on offer as a
single lot with an estimate of $2,000 to $4,000.
— Two Navajo squash blossom necklaces, measuring 16 by 9 inches, with an estimate of $300 to $600.
• Mission polychrome snake basket, measuring about 3 inches high by 10 1/2 inches wide, with an estimate of $1,000 to $1,500.
— Hopi Creamware pottery seed jar, otherwise known as a 'three-corn Sikyatki' jar, measuring 18 inches in diameter, with an estimate of $1,500 to $2,000.
• Native American turquoise silver cuff bracelet, 7 1/2" inches, with an estimate of $500 to $750.
