Queen’s luxury sedan rolls up for car auction July 26

On July 26, H&H Classics is offering Queen Elizabeth II’s personally used 2001 Daimler Majestic Saloon at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, UK.

Luxury automobiles selling at auction are often interesting, but not uncommon. However, when Her Majesty The Queen’s personally used luxury sedan hits the open market, it commands attention.

On July 26, H&H Classics is offering the 2001 Daimler Majestic 4.0 LWB (long wheelbase) Saloon at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, UK. This truly unique luxury car carries an estimate of £45,000-£55,000 (about $58,000-$71,000 U.S.) A 15 percent buyer's premium will be applied to all lots sold at the car auction.

An automobile like no other

The Daimler is outfitted with options directly from HRH Queen Elizabeth II, making it a one-of-a-kind luxury automobile with platinum provenance.

Like many of us, The Queen has an aversion to cigar and cigarette smoke. According to records from Jaguar Cars Ltd, the five-seat luxury sedan was ordered without a rear cigar lighter or ashtrays. The standard fit CD Auto Changer was also omitted. This may have been to accommodate communications and security equipment, which has been removed. However, the flashing security lights (“alternately flashing front / rear fog lights and front-mounted strobe lights”) remain and actually work, but would be illegal to use on the streets in the UK.

Luxury sedan is capable of 0-60 in 6.9 seconds AND has a handbag tray

With an eye toward comfort and convenience, the Majestic 4.0L Long Wheelbase Saloon was ordered with touring suspension and “more sumptuous rouched soft grain [leather] trim.” Also, according to H&H Classics, Her Majesty enjoys riding with the windows down. But not the window closest to her, so each rear armrest contains controls for both rear windows.

The most personal touch in this car appears to be the handbag holding tray built into the armrest between the front seats. The tray allowed Her Majesty's handbag to remain at hand but out of harm’s way.

Outfitted for comfort and security, the car also features a 3996cc alloy V8 engine (rated at 280hp / 277lbft) and five-speed automatic transmission. The luxury sedan is believed to be capable of 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds and 149mph. The car, which was kept in a temperature-controlled garage, in phenomenal condition. With just 15,325 miles on the odometer, it’s nearly new!

The winning bidder at the car auction will also receive: the V5C Registration Document, handbooks, assorted Jaguar Cars Ltd / Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust paperwork. For added interest, many photos of the car in action, transporting the Queen, will also be included.
