Gem-set gold picture frame could fetch $150,000

Among the objects expected to vie for top lot during Heritage Auctions’ Fine Silver & Objects of Vertu Auction on Oct. 17 is a tri-fold mother-of-pearl and diamond photo frame by Asprey. The frame carries an estimate of $100,000-$150,000.

DALLAS — Collectors of silver and gold will have an opportunity to bid on an extraordinary array of keepsakes at Heritage Auctions’ Fine Silver & Objects of Vertu Auction Oct. 17 in Dallas.

Expected to be among the top lots is a 20th-century gold, diamond and mother-of-pearl Asprey tri-fold frame ($100,000-$150,000) from London. Each of the three hinged panels is centered with a domed frame. The panels are surrounded by a mother-of-pearl field and diamond border. Applied laurel and floral decoration in gemstone cabochons and diamonds surround.

An 1863 Large R&S Garrard & Co. Victorian silver nautical figural trophy ($30,000-$50,000) from London features a detailed figure of Neptune/Poseidon clutching a trident while standing atop a dolphin or sea serpent, with scrollwork to the domed lid and rim below. Cascading below are thick kelp strands and mussel-form texture. This extends to three handles on a shallow bowl. Three intertwined dolphins or sea serpents lift the piece overhead.

Fabergé and Tiffany Represent

Fabergé 14K gold, gilt silver, opalescent enamel, Moss Agate and Diamond Vanity Case ($20,000-$30,000) is decorated with white guilloche enamel on moiré ground, with three hinged compartments articulated with chased pink and yellow gold bands. Each hinged lid has a flange lift set with rose-cut diamonds; the middle lid has an oval moss agate within a border of rose-cut diamonds and opening to a mirror and secondary hinged lid.

A rare Tiffany & Co. Enameled 18K gold and gold quartz match safe in its original iguana leather case, attributed to Paulding Farnham for the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle from New York, circa 1889, carries a $10,000 to $15,000 estimate.
