Tiffany Studios Peony table lamp set to rise to at least $250,000
The third offering of Tiffany Studios masterpieces, including a stunning Tiffany Peony table lamp, from Japan’s esteemed Garden Museum is headlining the April 12 sale at Michaan Auctions.
ALAMEDA, Calif. — Approximately 95 lots of fine Tiffany masterworks and decorative arts will be featured April 12 in Michaan’s Auctions’ Alameda, Calif., showroom. This sale marks the third offering of Tiffany Studios treasures from Japan’s esteemed Garden Museum with additions from private collections.
A Tiffany Peacock chandelier is an expected high point from the sale’s Garden Museum Collection lots ($250,000-$300,000). The hanging shade features a repeating, all-over design depicting peacock tail feathers. The intense, saturated coloration of the glass remains one of the most striking characteristics of the piece, displaying gemlike shades of blue and green. The domed shade measures 26 inches in diameter and is suspended by an understated bronze fixture upon a chain.
A Tiffany Studios Peony table lamp illuminates the sale with an estimate of $250,000 to $350,000. This piece features a shade 22 inches in diameter with deep crimson blossoms, surrounded by foliage and background petals of subtly varied hues, expressing the studio’s mastery of color. The shade is mounted upon a fancy reticulated Library base.
Another offering from the Garden Museum Collection attracting presale interest is a Tiffany Studios landscape window, circa 1910-1920. The scene is a landscape image centering a classic veranda setting, with lush plants and blooms, including a fountain spray adorned by flowering water lilies. The landscape window measures 30 1/4 inches in height by 58 inches in width and has an estimate of $250,000 to $300,000.
Additional unique pieces headed to market include:
