Going Mid-century at Vintage Garage Chicago
The Windy City is going Mid-century with a touch of Modern thrown in, during the next in a series of theme-based shows from Vintage Garage Chicago.
CHICAGO — Mid-century Modern is coming to Vintage Garage Chicago on May 18. Dealers will be stocking up and bringing their best midcentury merchandise to fit the theme.
“Mid-century and Modernism remain hot categories in the vintage marketplace,” says Melissa Sands of Vintage Promotions LLC, producer of the show. “The clean lines, quality construction and confident look are qualities that continue to propel the decorative focuson modernism into Chicago homes.”
Increasing popularity has also meant increasing prices in this category. However, Sands says, it’s still affordable, especially when compared to new product of a similar vein.
“There was a lot of it produced,” Sands says. “Manufacturers often imitated what the leaders did. That means if you’re not buying a big name, you can still have a great look.”
Modernism also has staying power.
“I don’t see us trending away from it for a long time,” Sands says. “The slim sizes and clean look are ideal for the way people are living now. It’s even hard to find right-sized furniture in a retail store today. Most of what you find is not designed for smaller urban spaces.”
Admission for the Vintage Garage is $5 and the hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vintage Garage Chicago is held on the third Sunday of the month through October. Vintage Garage is located at 5051 N Broadway, at the Argyle stop on the Red Line.
