Elite music memorabilia headlining May 16 sale
Stage-used guitars owned by George Harrison and Eric Clapton will cross the auction block May 16, along with more than 600 other lots in the Music Memorabilia Auction presented by Julien’s Auctions.
NEW YORK — Julien’s Auctions’ highly anticipated Music Icons Auction will be held at
the Hard Rock Café New York, May 16 beginning at 10 a.m. More than 600 lots of memorabilia from The Beatles, rare guitars from the world’s most iconic musicians, musical stars of an era gone by and ladies who continue to sell out arenas in record time, will cross the auction block.
A 1963 Mastersound Electric Guitar, played by George Harrison during the summer of 1963, is one of the expected highlights. The guitar, with an estimate of $600,000 to $800,000, was used by Harrison on loan from a music store in Manchester, while his guitar (Country Gent) was being repaired. The Australian solid-body guitar has a flame maple natural finish top, dark sides, a sunburst back, mahogany neck with a bound rosewood fingerboard, among other features.
A vintage Gibson SG Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar, circa 1962 ($30,000-$40,000), purchased and played by Eric Clapton will also be offered. Originally purchased by Clapton to recreate the same experience as the psychedelic guitar he used in Cream, the guitar features a Heritage cherry finish, double cutaway, trapezoid inlays, two humbucking pickups and is accompanied by a black hardshell case.
The controversial and often misunderstood rock star Vinnie Vincent was the original replacement for KISS founding member Ace Frehley and garnered the reputation as one of the band’s most influential members. Three prominent guitars attributed to Vincent will be offered in the auction. The selection includes a Vinnie Vincent model electric guitar manufactured and gifted to Vincent by Pear Guitars ($10,000-$20,000).

• Nat King Cole-worn Sy Devore suit ($2,000-$4,000).
