Dr. Daniel’s antique cabinet may top 900-lot sale Aug. 9
Bidding is expected to be wild for a veterinary cabinet, advertising Dr. Daniel’s Veterinary Medicines, during Morphy Auctions’ Aug. 9 sale.
DENVER, Pa. – Whatever you like to collect, you’ll probably find something great to take home from
Morphy’s diverse August 9 auction featuring general antiques, advertising and figural cast iron. To break it down even more, how about a lineup that runs the gamut from old license plates and Roseville pottery to sterling silver and abstract paintings? And, of course, it wouldn’t be complete without toys and dolls – lot of them. There are many ways to bid in addition to in person at the gallery, including by phone, absentee or live via the Internet through Morphy Live.
Feeling the need to pause for refreshment? Morphy’s can quench your thirst with Lot 80, a 1950s Coca-Cola tin advertising sign that has great gloss and color. The 27½ by 19½ inch sign is in excellent condition and estimated at $250-$500.
One of the staples in any serious country store collection is an antique veterinary cabinet. Lot 120 is a beauty. It’s a fine example of a cabinet advertising Dr. Daniel’s Veterinary Medicines, with a colorful tin-litho pictorial front that has fantastic eye appeal. It’s entered in the sale with a $1,500-$3,000 estimate.
The toy section spans the better part of a century of production in the United States, Europe and Japan. Lot 308 is unusual in that it looks like an early tinplate car, but it’s actually made of pressed steel with a wood front. It’s 13 inches long with a driver figure, and it’s estimated at $100-$200.
One of the premier names in Japanese postwar toy production, Modern Toys, is represented by Lot 426, an 11½-inch battery-operated tin motorcycle with a policeman figure that steps off, then back onto the motorcycle as it turns in circles. This clean, beautiful example with bright coloration is estimated at $500-$800.
An irresistible duo of plush, long-limbed teddy bears will be offered together as Lot 716. In overall very-good-plus condition, they are jointly estimated at $150-$300.
