Chinese White & Blue porcelain jar may soar to $3,000 during inaugural online sale

Waterford’s Art & Antiques Auctioneers first exclusive online auction, set for Feb. 8, will feature an eclectic mix of Chinese, Japanese, European and American items, including porcelain, prints, snuff bottles and crystal.

BERLIN, N.J. — On Saturday, February 8th, 2014, Waterford's Art & Antiques Auctioneers will hold its first exclusively online sale — Unreserved Antique and Collectible Auction —

beginning at 10:00 AM EST on www.liveauctioners.com. Previews of the sale are available at the Waterford's, 147 Jackson Rd. Berlin, NJ, on Wednesday February 5 and Thursday February 6 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Friday February 7 from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

The sale will include a wide variety of lots including Chinese, Japanese, European and American works of fine and decorative art as well as collectibles and memorabilia.

Lots from China and Japan include snuff bottles; famille verte; Blue & White and Famille Rose porcelain; ivory figures; paintings on hanging scrolls; gold, jade and coral hairpins; contemporary prints; woodblock prints including Kitagawa Utamaro; studio ceramics and lacquer tea sets. Among the lots from this section expected to draw much interest is:

• A Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Jar, of ovoid form tapering toward the foot, the jar painted in underglaze blue with figures in a pavilion by an elm tree above a border of waves encircling the foot, with wear to the surface, measuring approximately 9 3/4 inches in height. It carries a presale estimate of $2,000 to $3,000.

• A Japanese Woodblock Print, in Frederick Harer Frame, in frame approximately 17 1/2 inches wide by 21 1/2 inches high. It is expected fetch between $700 and $900.

European and American Lots include antique Mezzotints; continental furniture with marble tops; Baccarat and Orrefors crystal; Royal Worcester porcelain; sterling silver boxes and accessories; continental brass candlesticks; oil paintings and prints; and mid-century furniture including a Milo Baughman/Thayer Coggin sofa. An Erika Lagerbielke Orrefors crystal vase, the body faceted, the base etched with Orrefors signature "Orrefors EL 4729.22," measuring 7 7/8 inches in height carries a presale estimate of $100 to $150.
