Burmese spinel necklace may polish up $12,000
A late 19th century natural Burmese spinel necklace is among the headliners of a two-session jewelry auction set for Dec. 5.
MONROVIA, Calif. – John Moran Auctioneers’ two-session December fine jewelry auction promises to be an event overflowing with sparkle and fun, wearable finds ranging in price from the low hundreds to five figures. The sale will take place at the firm’s gallery at 145 E. Walnut Ave., Monrovia, California.
Burmese Necklace Among Headliners
The first session, Fine Jewelry, commences at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Furthermore, the auction comprises 141 lots in total including pieces by designers such as Van Cleef & Arpels, David Webb, Cartier, Rolex, and Tiffany & Co.
The Studio Jewelry Auction comprises 244 lots at approachable price points, and begins at 2 p.m. Furthermore, designers such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, Gerald Genta, and Tiffany & Co. are among those represented in the second-session offerings.
One of the most highly anticipated lots from the Fine Jewelry Session is a circa 1890 antique natural Burmese spinel necklace. A possible dark horse highlight, the necklace carries an estimate between $8,000 and $12,000. In addition, the unheated cushion-cut red Burmese spinel is a Renaissance-revival pendant/brooch. It will head to the block shortly after the first session opens.
"Scribble" Jewelry Captivating Studio Jewelry Bidders
In addition, highlights from the Studio Jewelry Auction include a delicate diamond and emerald butterfly pendant necklace. It bears the signature of Parisian maker FRED. Furthermore, the necklace is typical of the clean lines and detailing of FRED pieces.
Fans of modern design will be pleased to find a number of fun selections in the Studio Jewelry
Auction, including a group of 18K yellow gold “Scribble” jewelry designed by Paloma Picasso for Tiffany & Co. Comprising a pair of earrings and a zig-zag bangle, the lot is expected to go for $800 to $1,200.
