Georg Jensen jewelry captivates bidders at Rago Arts
Various pieces of early and seldom-seen jewelry by master jewelry designer Georg Jensen changed hands at auction June 9-11, through Rago Arts & Auction Center.
LAMBERVILLE, N.J. — Rago Arts and Auction Center's June Jewelry and Remix Auctions brought $1,874,413. Bidders participated June 9-11.
Moonstone Necklace and Gold Ear Clips Each Command $2,750
The David Taylor Collection of Georg Jensen Jewelry hammered in at 7% above the high estimate. The sell-through rate was 96%. The masterfully curated collection was amassed by the world’s preeminent Jensen scholar.
An 18K yellow gold Georg Jensen bracelet brought $5,000. A sterling and moonstone necklace realized $2,750. Meanwhile, a scarce pair of gold and pearl ear clips commanded $2,750.
Diamond and Platinum Ring Seals Top Lot
The following day’s Remix: Effortless Style Auction saw several works of art and design defy their estimates, including Lot 1181, an untitled painting of a mother and child by Vietnamese artist Vu Cao Dam which sold for $10,625 against an estimate of $5,000-7,000. Diamonds dominated in Sunday’s Fine + Antique Jewelry Auction, including Lot 2459, a 7.19 carat RBC diamond and platinum engagement ring which sold for $87,500 against an estimate of $55,000-75,000 – the highest price achieved by a single lot in the three-day auction series.
Also of note: Lot 2224, an enameled yellow gold, diamond and ruby frog bracelet by David Webb which sold for $37,500 against an estimate of $18,000-24,000; Lot 2320, a Tiffany & Co. Art Deco sapphire, diamond and platinum strap bracelet which sold for $26,250; Lot 1181, James Bohary’s 1981 oil painting Wired Off Gardners’ Island which sold for $10,625 against an estimate of $3,000-5,000; and Lot 2117, a gentleman’s Patek Philippe exhibition back yellow gold watch which sold for $10,625 against an estimate of $4,000-6,000.
Rago Arts and Auction Center will host walk-in valuation days July 10 and 24. The next series of unreserved auctions is scheduled for Aug. 25-27. The three-day event will feature early 20th century fine art, estate goods, rock ephemera, Scandinavian design and post-war and contemporary art, and mid-century modern.
