Late 19th century wooden santos eyeing $1,200

Among the nearly 500 lots scheduled for Witherell’s summer auction (July 1-15), is a late 19th century wooden santos (a religious statue) with a high estimate of more than $1K.

1-15, 2015, is stacking up to be the biggest yet.

The personal antique collection of Klima’s Antiques, along with part of the Crego Civil War collection, make up the selection of items in this auction.

From Los Angeles to Sutter Creek, Earl and Ray Klima ran their antiques store for more than 30 years, amassing a vast trove of collectibles, chandeliers and furniture. Collectible items include coin-operated machines, early cap guns, California advertising and law badges, as well as antique chandeliers, clocks and American furniture.

“The Klimas have such an outstanding collection of pop culture,” said Brian Witherell, an appraiser on the Antiques Roadshow and Witherell’s chief operating officer.

In addition to the diverse selection of items from Klima’s Antiques, bidders will have the chance to obtain items from the Crego Civil War collection. Witherell and descendants of Lt. Col. Arthur Crego were featured on the Fox Business News show “Strange Inheritance” talking about the many unusual Civil War items the Lt. Col. saved during his lifetime.

Valued at $400 to $600, a Civil War 1864 Burnside carbine is one of a dozen lots from the Crego collection set for sale.

Other unique items include a late 19th century wooden santos that stands 29 inches tall and is estimated at $800 to $1,200, a Moreau bronze of a woman leaning on a pedestal valued at $500 to $750, a Georg Jensen sterling brooch and earring set worth $500 to $700 and a colorful 1920s Fuller paint advertisement with flapper ­— that measures 30-by-31 inches and is estimated at $100 to $300.
Extensive silver and jewelry offerings are also included in this diverse auction.
