Custer-era Colt revolver aims to sell May 20
A Colt revolver dating to the era of Custer, and a serial number with ties to the 7th Cavalry, is one of the historic lots coming to auction May 22.
DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. — Pook & Pook, Inc.’s spring firearms and militaria auction is scheduled for May 20th at 10 a.m.. The sale features more than 150 guns, including a Colt revolver with ties to the 7th Cavalry, assorted foreign military items, and the American militaria collection of Boyd W. Houck of Philipsburg, Pennsylvania.
The firearms portion of the auction begins with long guns, moving from historic pieces to more modern examples. Highlights include an early Beretta eight gauge shotgun with impressive detailing. A Winchester model 1873 rifle in rare, seemingly unfired condition is slated to cross the block. Adding to the excitement is a Beretta 687 EELL Diamond Pigeon shotgun with twenty and twenty-eight gauge barrels. Plus, a U. S. model 1919 A4 belt fed light machine gun that was converted to semi-automatic.
Colt Revolver and Gold-Wash Pistol Up for Bid
Handguns with rich histories and character are on offer. The list includes an important Custer-era, Colt revolver, single shot Army, with a significant serial number linking it to the 7th Cavalry. Plus, a Smith & Wesson factory registered, limited release revolver. A Colt Python “Ten Pointer” revolver is on offer. Also coming before bidders is a Walther PPKS gold wash pistol.
The Boyd W. Houck collection includes items on display in a small museum in central Pennsylvania. The collection features a pigeon parachute vest. Not to mention a WWII Signal Corps radio receiver and transmitted backpack. Scarce inert bazooka rocket launchers. Plus, original, sealed WWII rations. This collection is a must-see for American militaria enthusiasts.
The Saturday auction will be followed by a small Native American auction on Bidsquare.com. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 22nd, the Native American sale presents around 150 lots of antique and contemporary American Indian arts from across the country.
