Iconic Star Wars C-3PO Helmet Sells for $838,750

Worn in the groundbreaking 1977 Star Wars movie by actor Anthony Daniels, the golden head of the famous movie droid had been with the British actor for nearly a half century.

Some downsizing is easier than others.

Take English actor Anthony Daniels, best known for playing the talkative and anxious protocol droid C-3PO in all the Star Wars films. The 77-year-old actor sold much of his memorabilia from those movies, including the iconic gold C-3PO helmet he wore in the groundbreaking 1977 film, Star Wars: A New Hope. The helmet sold for $838,750 at Propstore Auction in London in November.

“It feels like it is time,” Daniels said, explaining his reason for selling a large assortment of his Star Wars memorabilia. “I realized I had these items and they’re not unloved but they are unlooked at — we don’t have them crowding the sitting room.

“Will I feel sad to part with them? No,” Daniels said. “I will enjoy the fact people will cherish and display them.”
