cataloged International auction presents a similarly enticing collection of decorative objects from all over the world. Taking place Saturday, October 31st at 9:00am, the sale draws its strength from its artistic offerings in oil, wood, and ceramics.

Several noteworthy pieces of fine art fill Pook & Pook, Inc.’s International catalog, some smaller than others. A collection of miniature military portraits by British artist John Buncombe make a big impact, as does a French bronze, cloisonné, and porcelain-mounted mantel clock with a miniature watercolor portrait ornamenting its jeweled pendulum. A large portrait of a woman and canaries by French artist Joseph-Désiré Court and an oil on canvas portrait of a horse and jockey in the manner of Thomas Spencer are additional highlights, as is a unique piece by Brazilian artist Juarez Machado. The auction also features respected artists Le Pho and Vu Cao Dam, whose pioneering work in the Western Oriental Style helped lay the foundation for Vietnamese modern art. Their inspired blending of traditional Vietnamese art and French salon influences has incited worldwide appreciation.

Pook & Pook, Inc.’s Asian art offerings extend into ceramics as well. Several fine pieces of Chinese export porcelain are for sale on October 31st, including a famille rose covered soup tureen, ca. 1790, with boar’s head handles and a pair of Chinese Sancai glaze bowls. Continental porcelain also features heavily in the sale. A Sevres ormolu mounted urn painted by G. Georget with a portrait of Napoleon and the Palace of Fontainebleau, along with a Meissen twenty-two piece porcelain monkey band, are two of many ceramic lots that will interest collectors.

Moving from porcelain instruments to real ones, the International sale includes a lovely 1914 Lyon & Healy gold concert harp, style 21, with its original packing crate, as well as three early Selmer saxophones and an assortment of mouthpieces. Also of note are two 19th c., fully-jointed pine artist’s mannequins. The well-constructed adult and child were carved with detailed facial features, fingers, and toes.

Following Saturday’s catalog sale, Pook & Pook, Inc. offers an online only auction on Monday, November 2nd. Starting at 9:00am, this sale includes a wide variety of international decorative arts spanning multiple price brackets. Highlights include a large collection of R. S. Prussia porcelain, a rare Mount Washington Burmese glass pitcher, and a large Prattware painted jardinière.
