Tianshou painting sets fine art record, selling for $735K
Two auctions features eclectic selections of Asian art, bottles and glass set the stage for Auctionata’s first ‘white glove sale’ and resulted in a record sale for art by artist Tianshou.
BERLIN — The online art and auction house Auctionata has achieved spectacular results in its most recent Asian Art auctions. In addition to setting a new record for PAN Tianshou in the auction ‘Important Asian Art’ on December 12, Auctionata reached a
historical milestone with its 144th livestream auction ‘Exceptional Snuff Bottles from a Spanish Collection’ on December 11: After only two years of broadcasting livestream auctions, Auctionata accomplished its first ‘white glove’ sale.
The auction presented 64 snuff bottles from a private collection in Spain with an impressive 100% sell-through rate. The small, yet artfully crafted vessels enchanted bidders with their diversity of designs and precious materials such as agate, jade, overlay glass and porcelain. Bidders from China, Thailand, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Germany engaged in heated bidding contests which resulted in hammer prices that exceeded the estimates by far. The most sought after object of the night was a shadow agate snuff bottle with a bird motif from the Qing dynasty, which ultimately sold for €15,600.
The auction ‘Important Asian Art’ on December 12 continued with a remarkable selection of works by important Chinese artists such as QI Baishi, LI Keran and GUAN Liang that rendered an overall result of €1.6 million.
The outstanding highlight of this auction was a work of PAN Tianshou, which ultimately sold for €600,000 thereby setting a new record for works of the artist sold outside of China. A second work of the artist also achieved a stunning price of €312,000. A private album of paintings from the estate of the well-known illustrator Werner Klemke (1917-1994) realized another spectacular result of €204,000. Filled with personal messages and spontaneous drawings by LI Keran, GUANG Liang, HE Tianjian and many other artists, this unique object was one of several lots that fascinated bidders with their personal history and impressive provenance (all prices incl. buyer’s premium.
