Moran’s Nov. 17 sale taking place in Pasadena
An early 19th century painting by Maurice de Vlaminck may realize between $80,000-$100,000 during John Moran Auctioneers Nov. 17 Decorative Art Auction.
MONROVIA, Calif. – While John Moran Auctioneers staff has been preparing for its move from
Altadena to the renovated facility in downtown Monrovia, the firm's next Decorative Art Auction has been coalescing.
The Nov. 17 sale, beginning at 3 p.m., features more than 260 lots of 19th and 20th century works of European, Latin American and Asian artworks, as well as a wide selection of Mid-Century Modern and Contemporary designer decorative arts, 18th and 19th century French furniture, bronzes, sculptures and a selection of art glass. Contrary to previous reports, this auction will be held at Moran’s usual off-site venue, the Pasadena Convention Center, as facility renovations are still underway.
Modern artworks on offer include pieces by noted 20th century artists such as George Braque, Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder and Joan Miró, all making a strong appearance in Moran’s November catalog. Spanish-born modernists are well-represented.
Mid-century furniture highlights abound, with selections ranging from a group of verdigris patio furniture by Walter Lamb to high-quality Scandinavian examples. A 1960s rolling bar cart with a sliding fold-out service counter by Norwegian designer Torbjorn Afdal for Bruksbo is expected to bring $1,000 to $1,500.
The cataloged Decorative Art session will be followed by an un-catalogued Discovery session with no reserves at 6:30 p.m.
The November Decorative Art Auction will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center, 300 E Green Street, Pasadena, Calif. Bidding is available via telephone, absentee or online through www.liveauctioners.com, www.bidsquare.com and www.invaluable.com.
Moran’s next auction is its Dec. 8 Fine Jewelry and Luxe sale, which will be the first event held at their location in downtown Monrovia, Calif.; highlights from the cataloged lots can be found on www.johnmoran.com.
