Mechanical music collection coming to auction Oct. 14-16

A German Gebruder Bruder 80-keyless fairground organ is an expected mechanical music star of Great Gatsby’s 1,600-lot auction, Oct. 14-16.

ATLANTA, Ga. – A single-owner mechanical music collection, fine decorative arts and furniture from a Palm Beach, Florida philanthropist are coming to auction. In addition, original artworks by noted artists and fine antique Asian art and objects will be among the items featured in the Oct. 14-16 sale at Great Gatsby’s Auction Gallery. The auction will take place at the Gallery, at 5180 Peachtree Boulevard, Atlanta, Georgia. The auction will begin at 10 a.m. Eastern Time on Friday and 11 a.m. Eastern on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to in-person, absentee and telephone bidding, internet bidding will be available through Bidsquare.com, Invaluable.com and LiveAuctioneers.com.

More than 1,600 lots will come up for bids. The mechanical music collection is that of Marvin Horowitz of Florida. He purchased his first theater organ from the E. M. Lowes Theater near Boston. The star lot of the Horowitz collection is a German Gebruder Bruder 80-keyless fairground organ, which features an elaborately painted case that has been restored. Additional items on offer from the collection include a 1920s Calliaphone by Tangley Electric, an American upright oak and leaded stained glass Nickelodeon, and a 1930s Belgian Art Deco beer hall organ by Arburo.

From a Palm Beach, Florida collection come a number of pieces of 18th century English furniture, including a George III flame mahogany serpentine dressing chest with fitted interior and fold-out mirror, a Regency style handkerchief card table, a George IV mahogany cellarette made circa 1825 of sarcophagus form, and a 19th century English mahogany and Chinoiserie banjo barometer by Sheppard.

Additional items in the sale include:

• Queen Anne burl highboy, circa 1740.
— Chinese carved spinach jade Bixie (a lion-like mythological Chinese creature) with flame-colored shell.
• 18th century palace-sized standing portrait of Queen Anne of Britain.
— 20th century painting of the USS Maine at sea.
• Gilt Zisha gourd teapot.
