Keeping time sure to pay off during online-only auction
As part of the estate of an East Coast decorator a collection of 75 antique and vintage watches, including an antique American Waltham open-face pocket watch, will come before bidders March 14 through Thomaston Place Auction Galleries.
THOMASTON, Maine: Now through Wednesday, March 14, 2018, Thomaston Place Auction Galleries’ is conducting an online-only auction featuring a large inventory of estate wrist and pocket watches, an important Grand Tour era multi-family photography & ephemera collection, and items from the estate of a Wiscasset, Maine decorator and dealer – and all pieces with modest opening bids. The sale will be conducted simultaneously on three online auction sites: Thomaston Place Auction Galleries’ own platform, Thomaston Live; LiveAuctioneers; and Invaluable.
Decorator Estate Headlining Online-Only Auction
The 168-lot Wiscasset decorator estate collection will include: a circa 1820 French Empire marble top pier table ($1,000-2,000); a group of seven early 19th Century clear glass decanters ($600-800); a framed 18th Century hand colored bird engraving by Mark Catesby ($400-600); and a pair of Old Paris porcelain hand painted urns ($400-600). Additionally, there will be many fine works of art, lamps, mirrors, carpets, and decorative home accessories.
A highlight of the extensive family-archived photography and ephemera collection will be an album of original bromide photos taken on a 1905 trip to China, ranging from Hong Kong to the Great Wall ($1,000-1,500). Views range from town scenes, horse racing, and peasantry to shocking images of the Russo-Japanese War. The collection will also include assorted Grand Tour travel journals and photo albums from around the world, many daguerreotype and cabinet card photos, a group of 11 English, French and American patents, albums of travel postcards, antique books, genealogy materials, and family correspondence.
Waltham Riverside Among Features of Watch Selection
The 75-lot watch collection will be led by an American Waltham 14K gold Riverside open face pocket watch, circa 1890 ($600-800). There will also be a New York Watch Co. coin silver hunter case pocket watch, circa 1870 ($400-600), and a Stauffer & Co. Swiss open face chronograph pocket watch retailed by Tiffany & Co. ($300-500).
The live auction will commence at 10 a.m. EST on March 14, and registered participants may place bids on items as they come up for sale.
