Fresh-to-market Tiffany window may hammer for $60,000

A Tiffany Studios leaded glass window, titled ‘Angel of Resurrection’ may lead all Mid-Century modern pieces in the 800-lot Fall Auction being offered Sept. 26-27 by Cottone Auctions.

GENESEO, N.Y. – Approximately 800 lots of Mid-Century Modern pieces by major designers, original oil paintings and other works of art, art glass creations, sterling silver, lamps and lighting, clocks and decorative accessories will come up for bid Sept. 26-27, at Cottone Auctions’ big annual Fall Fine Art & Antiques Auction.

The auction will be held in the firm’s gallery at 120 Court Street in Geneseo, starting at noon Eastern Sept. 26, and 11 a.m. Sept. 27. Phone and absentee bids will be accepted, and Internet bid- ding will be facilitated by LiveAuctioneers.com and Invaluable.com.

One lot certain to spark intense bidder interest is a Tiffany Studios leaded and stained glass window, offered for the first time ever and titled Angel of Resurrection. The window, originally displayed at a church in Newark, New Jersey, is expected to hammer for between $40,000 and $60,000. Another candidate for top lot of the auction is an all original, Tiffany Studios Poppy lamp, 24 inches tall, with an overlay filigree shade 17 inches in diameter, signed Tiffany Studios (N.Y., #1461).The lamp carries a presale estimate of $60,000 to $80,000.

The bulk of the Mid-Century Modern pieces in the sale come from the estate collection of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hallick who, in the 1950s and ’60s, commissioned the Danish designer Tage Frid (1915- 2004) and others to assist in the renovation of their home in Rochester, New York. Among those items featured in this sale are:

• A 7-foot walnut dining table ($7,000-$10,000).

• Sterling silver 10-inch Brussels coff ee pot ($7,000-$10,000).

Also featured in this auction are items from the Cooper estate of New Jersey, which includes sterling silver to original works of art to art glass. Featured lots include:

• Contemporary art glass bowl, titled “Boundless Serena,” by Toots Zynsky ($8,000-$12,000).

• Early impressionist engraving titled “Lady on Horseback” ($20,000-$30,000).

• French shelf clock by A. Brocot with gilt bronze cherub ($15,000-$25,000).
