Ruby Lane's 20th anniversary bash includes a 72-hour Ruby Red Tag Sale, in which hundreds of dealers have selected prime items to offer at 50% off their regular price. Jewelry, postcards, pottery, porcelain, glass, fashion accessories ... you name it – it's on sale for 50% off. The sale runs from 8 a.m. Pacific time today (Friday, August 17) until 8 a.m. Pacific time on Monday, August 20.
Here are a few tempting sale items
Ruby Lane seller Tanya's Treasures has picked a stunning star sapphire and diamond ring to include in the sale. The description states, "This gorgeous piece of corundum is a exceptional example of how beautiful and interesting our Mother Nature can be sometimes. The sapphire has an unusually high center, which accentuates a crisp, crawling star in the peak of sunlight. In the right position, the star sits perfectly centered at the height of the cabochon." The sapphire measures 7.80mm in diameter x 6.40mm thick, 4.20ctw and it has a soft glowing moonstone translucence. The ring's regular price is $2,449.
Next up is a unique piece of costume jewelry from seller NOLA Pearl Girls (yes, they are from New Orleans). Four plastic cabochons centered by intaglio cameo decor surround a rectangular cameo on a gold-tone metal base. The Maltese-shaped brooch measures 2 3/4" long by 2 3/4" wide. The regular price of this circa 1970s splash of vintage color is $75.
If you're fond of history and color, don't miss this Etruscan Revival locket brooch offered by Jo Jo's Gems. It takes my breath away. In part, the seller describes: "This piece includes classic handmade Victorian era craftsmanship throughout! The pin features an Etruscan theme and was most likely picked up by someone on the Grand Tour. The top half of the pin is made out of 9k yellow gold,(unmarked but tested) while the bottom is made out of 9k rose gold for a beautiful contrast. The pin features a faceted granulated bead in the center of the design, with a border of Persian Turquoise beads. There are also many intricate carvings along the face of the pin and smaller granulated bead accents. The piece also includes the original crystal over what appears to be a piece of silk." ($695 regular price.)
Bless the 19th century Europeans for their fondness for classical culture "revivals." Thanks to them, there are so many wonderful pieces like this available.
Don't be misled ... there is far more than jewelry on sale.
Vintage art and collectibles
An original costume sketch by Hollywood costume designer Jean Louis is offered by Barkus Farm Antiques, Collectibles and Fine Art at a reduced price of $475 (the price will be cut in half during the sale!). Specifically, this sketch is for the movie "Salome" (Columbia, 1953) for the character, as noted on the sketch, "Wakara, A Handmaiden." The mixed media costume sketch on off-white heavy paper measures 14" wide by 20" high.
Seller Art and Found In American offers more than 900 items in their Ruby Lane store. So many interesting things, and at reasonable prices, too. It's an eclectic mix that includes a vintage Cartier apple paperweight. (Regular price $250.) Measuring in at 4 1/4" tall by 3 1/4" wide and weighing 1 1/2 pounds, those papers aren't going anywhere.
After allowing myself some time to browse and share some of the things that grabbed my attention, I'm filled with want. I don't doubt anyone who shops Ruby Lane will be especially so because of the Red Tag Sale.
A word of caution: Only one of each of these items is available, and they are subject to prior sale. Each of these items could be gone in a snap (a click, actually).
Happy hunting!
