Vampire-killing kit, Continental bronzes headlining So. Cal estates sale
Everything from antiques, jewelry and Asian and European art to vampire-killing kits, from upscale So. Calif. estates, will cross the block Oct. 5. The sale, being presented by Don Presley Auctions, features more than 500 lots.
SANTA ANA, Calif. – On Sunday, Oct. 5, Don Presley will auction more than 500 top-quality lots from a Beverly Hills antiques store liquidation and estates in Newport Beach and other upscale Southern California communities. The auction will take place at Presley’s gallery in Santa Ana, California, starting at 12:00 Pacific time / 3 p.m. Eastern time. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live-bidding services for the sale.
Quality furniture, clocks, fine artwork, a monumental Baccarat chandelier, and Russian
and Continental bronzes by the likes of Chiparus, D. Alonzo, G. Omerth, Bruno Zach, Marcel Bouraine, Gerdago and other important artists will be crossing the auction block. Other highlights including sterling silver, enamel over silver, KPM, Sevres, Lalique, Tiffany, a large Meissen figurine collection, and Limoges, Dresden and other porcelains.
In time for Halloween, Presley will offer an original and complete vampire-killing kit that includes a flintlock pistol and all of the other paraphernalia recommended for avoiding unwanted bat bites. Presented in its original case, the kit is expected to make $8,000 to $12,000.
Additional collector’s items in the auction lineup include badges of honor from various countries and Vatican City. Many are of sterling silver and enamel.
Asian items include a large collection of intricately carved celadon jade, natural coral objects, cloisonné, a tri-fold table screen and other fine examples of Chinese decorative art.
An extensive selection of fine jewelry and watches will be available. Highlighting the category is an 18K Vacheron Constantin pocket watch, which has a $2,500-$3,000 estimate. There is also an outstanding clockwork automaton of a girl who plays a game with two sticks and a ball when activated. Estimate: $750-$1,000.
Western Americana is led by an early cabinet card portrait of Apache tribal chief Mangas Coloradas (c. 1793-Jan. 18, 1863) by photographer A. Frank Randall. The image is in very good condition and has an $800-$1,200 estimate.
Many items will be auctioned with no minimums or reserves. If there is a reserve, it will be the starting bid, Presley said.
