Quimper, Ives, Santa Claus share auction block June 17
In its first stand-alone online auction, June 17, Pook & Pook Inc. is bringing a diverse selection to market, ranging from Quimper pottery to banks.
From Royal Bayreuth porcelain to mechanical banks, Pook & Pook, Inc.’s June 17th auction promises an eclectic and diverse assortment of objects. It is the company’s first stand-alone online
auction and expresses Pook & Pook, Inc.’s commitment to this accessible, user-friendly wave of the future via Bidsquare.com.
June’s sale draws from a wide array of collections. An assortment of European pewter shines with interesting pieces like a group of Irish haystack measures, rare Channel Islands measures, and a group of English double volute measures. Carefully researched and documented, these are the perfect pieces to jump start any pewter collection. Moving from 17th to 19th and 20th century metals, Pook & Pook, Inc. offers a group of fifteen mechanical banks. Mechanical banks gained popularity in the second half of the 19th century, finding roots in the increasing fervor surrounding automated toys. An Ives, Blakeslee, & Co. clockwork bulldog savings bank is a particularly desirable piece, as is a 19th century French automaton of carpenters, a highlight among many interesting toy lots.
Royal Bayreuth, Quimper, and other porcelains nicely juxtapose the metal bank and pewter collections and add color literally and figuratively to the sale. In a vibrant yellow, the H. R. Henriot tableware from Quimper, France includes tea service items, dinnerware, furniture knobs, and a group of figural fish-form plates. June’s collection of Royal Bayreuth porcelain is even more visually striking and has already caught the attention of several collectors’ clubs. Certain figural forms such as the Saint Bernard, duck or flounder are not often seen on the market, but the collection’s primary highlight is a Santa Claus cream pitcher. Featured halfway through the sale, this creamer is an object to watch.
