Presley Auctions carries on, bringing decorative art to market March 19
The team at Presley Auctions is carrying on the tradition set forth by their late leader, Don Presley, with a March 19 auction.
SANTA ANA, Calif. – The antiques trade lost veteran auctioneer Don Presley earlier this year. The company that bears his name is carrying on Presley’s tradition.
The firm's March 19 auction features exquisite European antiques he loved to handle. Many of the major names in decorative arts – Daum, Galle, KPM, Lalique, Tiffany and more – are appearing throughout the 192-lot catalog.
Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.
Presley to Showcase Art Deco Lamp
A top highlight is a 1920s Art Deco harlequin lamp. The J.B. Hirsch design sports a stepped alabaster base measures 10 3/4 by 15 1/2 by 6 inches.
Also on offer is an Art Deco torchere. Its amber art glass shade and a hand-forged black iron base is very much in the style of Paul Kiss. Featuring an acid-cut, Daum-style shade, the lamp stands 70 inches high.
Bidding starts at $100 on a Tiffany-style pair of fleur-de-lis bronze candleholders. They present with green glass grape-shaped bobeches.
Standing atop a triple-layer marble base is a 20-inch female figure with the title Renaissance Girl. A label reads “Gori Affortunato Gori (1895-1925 Italian).” Having studied at Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Gori worked in marble, bronze, and ivory. Often these materials combined in so-called chryselephantine figures.
