DOWNINGTOWN -- On March 9th and 10th, Pook & Pook, Inc. presents its next online only
decorative arts auction on Bidsquare.com. The two-day sale is filled with an exciting variety of objects at accessible prices and offers over five hundred lots each day.
Wednesday starts off strong with a large collection of landscapes from American artist, Julius Augustus Beck, coming directly from his family. A collection of Benton Spruance pieces, Philadelphia lithographs, and an assortment of other fine art offerings are scattered throughout the over seven hundred lots crossing the auction block on March 9th.
Native American items, including weavings, stoneware, baskets, and jewelry fill out day one, as does a substantial group of furniture. An 18th century Chippendale high chest and a Chippendale chest of drawers, ca. 1800, are among the most noteworthy pieces, as is a set of six custom-painted combback Windsor dining chairs and an armchair, all branded “PMM.”
Thursday’s sale also includes impactful art pieces, such as a pair of modernist stained glass and composition sculptures by Leonids Linauts, courtesy of the Reading Public Museum. Linauts’ stain glass work can be found ornamenting churches throughout Pennsylvania in the form of colorful windows. An oil on canvas cubist nude and multiple other pieces of sculptural fine art stand out as well.
Day two additionally features a series of carpets, Asian art and export porcelain, and art glass. However, for the ephemera collector, Pook & Pook, Inc. presents a collection of vintage comic books, ca. 1955. Batman, Superman, Nyoka the Jungle Girl, and various military-themed comics make up the group, which cross the block toward the end of the sale.
