The Steven Spielberg directed dinosaur thriller was a monster hit in 1993, grossing more than $914 million worldwide and leading to five sequels.
Thirty years ago, filmmaker Steven Spielberg delivered “an adventure 65 million years in the making.” Thanks to dramatic storytelling and stunning CGI (computer-generated imagery) advancements that seemingly brought dinosaurs to life, Jurassic Park became a monster hit.
Released June 11, 1993, Jurassic Park grossed more than $914 million worldwide in its original theatrical run, becoming the highest-grossing film ever at the time, surpassing Spielberg’s own, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. Based on the Michael Crichton novel of the same name, Jurassic Park spawned five sequels and a resurgence in all things dinosaur.
Jurassic Park movie posters are also popular with collectors. An original poster sold for $134 recently while a limited-edition alternative movie poster by Francesco Francavilla sold for $228, both at Heritage Auctions.
