WINCHESTER, Va. — Operated by the Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society, Hollingsworth Mill (which is located next to the Abrahm’s Delight house) will hold a special exhibit, “When This You See, Remember Me: Schoolgirl Samplers of Winchester-Frederick County, Virginia,” through Oct. 31. The exhibit features samplers executed by girls, ages 5 to 15, of the Winchester, Va., area in the 18th and 19th centuries. Samplers are historically significant, as they are a form of art, education and pastime that has survived for hundreds of years. Samplers can be studied for a better understanding of the lives of the girls and women who produced them. The Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society is a nonprofit organization interested in preserving and expanding the knowledge about the historical and cultural heritage of the Northern Shenandoah Valley. For more information, call 540-662-6550 or visit www.winchesterhistory.org.
